Statement of Purpose for the Sponsorship Donation Fund

In 2019, Daisen Shrine initiated the Reiwa Reconstruction Project, which includes the restoration of the Okumiya—designated as a National Important Cultural Property—and the Shimoshiyama Shrine sanctuary, along with their surrounding structures.
We are faithfully working toward the project’s completion in 2026.
The preservation and restoration of the many cultural properties under our care demand considerable funding. Yet, the shrine may receive governmental assistance—national, prefectural, or municipal—solely for the repair of buildings designated as Important Cultural Properties. Beyond covering part of these repair expenses, the wide-ranging upkeep of the shrine grounds, as well as the costs of the relocation rites and other ceremonies accompanying the project, must be supported through the heartfelt offerings of our parishioners and the members of the surrounding community.
To ensure the successful completion of this significant undertaking, the Sponsorship Association was founded in 2017, and ever since its establishment we have earnestly continued our efforts to request contributions for the project.
The reconstruction of the Okumiya sanctuary has been brought to completion, and on October 13 the Senzasai for the relocation of the Main Hall was solemnly performed. Concurrently, in order to prepare for the restoration work scheduled for the coming fiscal year on the auxiliary Shimoshiyama Shrine, the Temporary Hall Senzasai for Shimoshiyama Shrine was also conducted. Preparatory surveys for the forthcoming construction are already underway.
Furthermore, in consideration of disaster prevention for cultural properties, we are advancing the renewal of the fire‑prevention facilities, which are presently unusable, together with the installation of new equipment. This undertaking has also begun in earnest, with completion expected in the fiscal year following next.
In view of these circumstances, we humbly request that our devoted worshippers, with full understanding of the situation, bestow their special benevolence upon this undertaking and offer their generous contributions.
